Tricorder update #23 – At Last – It’s time

(This article was first emailed on March 28th, 2025 to fans who had registered an interest in finding out more about our Tricorder.)

It’s been a long time coming, but The Wand Company is thrilled to let you know that Tricorder production has started, and finished Tricorders are now rolling off the production line. After the enormously extended development, I am sure you share our excitement about completing this final stage. Hang on a minute! Of course, there is one more stage… and that is, getting the product into your hands.

We will be selling the Tricorder worldwide from Amazon UK

After some considerable thought, we have decided to bring the Tricorder from the factory into the UK and use Amazon to fulfil everyone’s orders. Please don’t worry, even if you’re not based in the UK, it is still perfectly easy to order through Amazon UK, and we have included more details on this process below. Initially at least, we plan to bear the significant additional cost of airfreighting the Tricorders from the factory to the UK in order to get things moving for you as quickly as possible. We believe that in the current, somewhat volatile market, this combination of air freight and availability from Amazon offers both you and us the quickest and most reliable way to finally bring the Tricorder home to you.

Tricorders stand to attention, hot off the production line and ready for action in the field

How to purchase through Amazon UK

We will be bringing the Tricorders into the UK as soon as they are completed, in a number of waves, and placing them into stock on Amazon UK as they arrive. As each wave is placed in stock and becomes available to order, we will email those who have registered their interest with us (in the order in which they registered) to let them know that they can purchase their Tricorder. Note: we will do our best to use the first registration date for those who registered multiple times.

Once each wave has sold through, the Tricorder may temporarily go out of stock, and for a limited time, it may not be possible to place an order. However, as further waves arrive and we load more stock into Amazon, we will be continuously monitoring the Amazon UK Tricorder listing to see when the stock becomes available to order again. The stock’s availability will then automatically trigger a new “invitation to purchase” email, which will be sent to the next group of registrants. Each new mailout will also go once again to those who received the previous two mailouts. Hopefully, this will catch people who might have missed the first or second email sent to them. Each fan who registered will thus receive three emails in total.

The email will include a link to purchase the Tricorder on its Amazon UK listing.

We have set a per order limit of two Tricorders

Please limit your purchase to two Tricorders to give everyone a chance of owning one. While we realize that doesn’t stop people from logging on multiple times with the same link to order more than two units, we ask that, initially at least, fans are considerate and purchase only a maximum of two units each.

The price is $350 USD (plus shipping and taxes where they apply)

Throughout the development, we have kept in mind the balance between functionality and cost, and have done our best to stay true to our company goal of providing products that are not only as good as they can be, but are also great value for all fans to enjoy.

The final price, although slightly higher than we had initially envisaged, will be the $350 USD that we most recently suggested in our newsletter. On the Amazon UK listing, the price will be shown as £324 GBP. This price includes VAT for our UK customers.

For those buying from the US or other countries, Amazon will deduct the VAT from the price, so it will not be charged, and the price (before shipping and US Sales Tax for US customers) will be £270 GBP, i.e. approximately $350 USD at current exchange rates. (Please note that as the exchange rate fluctuates the exact amount will differ).

Due to the current regulations regarding import duty, a single Tricorder order to the US falls under the “de minimis” rule, so will not incur any import duties (tariffs), although please note that the situation regarding import duties is rather fluid at the moment and might be subject to change.

For other territories, such as Europe, the order may be subject to the corresponding import VAT and duty rate, which Amazon will calculate at the time of ordering.

Further information about the Tricorder and what it does can be found at the newly published Tricorder product page and user manual

A number of Tricorders will be also be available to order or pre-order from StarTrek.com and through the IGN store at some future date.

    Hi Chris,

The Wand Company has done a great thing realizing a working Tricorder. You have been extremely patient and dedicated responding to everyone on this blog. I patiently await that email allowing me the chance to make my order. Thank you.

Interesting news in today’s email. However your comment that you’re not notifying US customers when Amazon loads product into the inventory is kind of disappointing.

Don’t we deserve to be emailed considering how long we’ve been waiting? Your dismissal of scalpers doesn’t make any sense to me considering they’ve all seen the demand and would be drooling to take the inventory and scalp them.

Plus the fact the tariff pause is temporary and knowing Trump once he makes his money he’ll screw everyone again.

Dismissing greed just seems to be foolish IMHO.

    I hope you’ll reconsider.

If you can’t buy it yet in the US there is no point sending out an invite to you yet. You do deserve to get an email, bit only when there is the opportunity for you to actually purchase the Tricorder. We are moving stock to the US as fast as we can and when it is there we will fill the Amazon sales channel and then email everyone in order LIKE WE KEEP ON SAYING, when it is available to buy. Thx

I guess I misunderstood your email then.

“ As mentioned above, since Amazon UK is not able to send our products to the US at the moment, we will not be sending out the invitation to any of our US customers.”

I guess this meant you’re not sending out an invitation to the UK store to US buyers?

Sorry I misunderstood but you didn’t specifically say US folks will get invites to the US Amazon store when US stock is available. My bad.

Thanks for responding to my post regardless.

Hello I received my invitation and Amazon UK is saying they can not ship to Canada “This item cannot be dispatched to your selected delivery location. Please choose a different delivery location.” As per your previous messages this was to be resolved before invitations went out. Can you please work with Amazon to move forward with purchase and shipping.

    Thank you

I’m sorry about this. When Amazon says it can’t deliver to your country, what it really means is that it is our of stock. Amazon has delivered plenty of Tricorders to Canada and as soon as there is enough stock in Amazon, we will turn the listing back on and send another email out. Sorry you’re having to wait, I know that it is frustrating but we are moving more stock in as it is being made.
